Research Interests

​In our laboratory we mainly perform single cell genomics analysis of cells. We use cell culture experiments, and RNA expression analysis. RNAseq, ATACseq, proteomics, and PCR techniques are examples of techniques used. This analysis, generating and reading parts of living cells, is coupled with perturbations such as shRNAi, CRISPR/cas9, and live cell imaging for monitoring. Read more...

Professional Profile

​Jesper is a Professor of Bioscience and Computer Science at King Abdullah University of Sciences and Technology and Adjunct Chaired Strategic Professor of Computational Medicine at Karolinska Institute.
He obtained the rank of chaired full professor 4.5 years after his PhD (1997).
In 1998 he was recruited as an Assistant Prof Computer Science Dept. of Computer Science and Numerical Analysis, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden.
Taking a leave of absence, he was a visiting Scientist and Postdoctoral Fellow (Boston, USA) on a Wennergren 5-year research Fellowship, 1998-2001 & he was also awarded a Research Fellowship position from the Alfred P Sloan Foundation (USA).
Assistant Prof Computer Science 2001-2002 from which Dr. Tegnér was recruited to the first Chaired Full Professorship in Computational Biology (Dept. of Physics) in Sweden 4.5 years (February 2002) after completing his PhD.
Since January 2010 he is a Strategic Professor Computational Medicine at Center for Molecular Medicine, Director for the Unit of Computational Medicine, Dept. of Medicine, Solna Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital. As of 2014 he is Faculty Member of Science for Life Laboratories, Stockholm.
He is an acting Section Editor on Clinical and Translational Systems Biology in Current Opinion on Systems Biology, Senior Editor in Progress in Preventive Medicine, and serves on the editorial Boards for BMC Systems Biology and Neurology: Neuroinflammation & Neurodegeneration. He is a fellow in the European society for Preventive Medicine. He is the founder of two BioIT companies.
